Veterans Park Deadline
The deadline is quickly approaching to list a veteran within the soon to be renovated Baish Veterans Park. Veterans that have lived in North Eddy County in some point of their life, and are currently enlisted or have had an honorable discharge are eligible. There is a $50 fee to help offset the cost of engraving, and the veteran or the person listing a veteran must fill out a form. The forms are available online-www.artesiamainstreet.com, or at the MainStreet office- 510 W. Main. Mail, or drop off the form before March 1st to have a veteran listed!
The history of Artesia is rich and filled with wonderful stories of people and industries that have, despite the odds, triumphed. The pages of Artesia’s past have come to life, and are on permanent display with the numerous monuments on Main Street. The importance of each monument is explained in great detail by the statues themselves and the accompanying plaques. Taking a walk down Main Street is an easy and fun way to learn more about the place you live and a wonderful connection is fostered when you learn of the sacrifices and successes made by the settlers of Artesia. The 30 day New Mexico Legislative Session is in session, which means that your elected officials are in Santa Fe working for you. If you don’t tell your elected officials what is important to your community, how will they create legislature that is valuable to you?
By reminding your legislators that Artesia’s local economy is important to you, it will become important to your legislator. Finding your legislator is easy, simply get in touch with the Eddy County Clerks office (575.887.9511), or the Artesia Chamber of Commerce (575.746.2744), or call Artesia MainStreet (575.746.1117) to receive contact info for your legislator.
