Downtown Lowdown
Summer Activities
If you have driven past Baish Veterans Park this week you may have noticed something- trees!! We have begun putting the finishing touches on the park; the end of the project is just right around the corner. Please be patient for a short while longer as the 5th St is still closed- and big trucks continue down Texas St. While navigating around this area may be a bit slower, don't let that stop you from your morning coffee, lunch or shopping. There's parking immediately in front of the shops on 5th St. and on Main St., as well as the parking lot off of Texas St. Enter the parking lot from Texas, and enter through the pedestrian access spot just north of Cowgirls Closet where you can walk right past the fence. We will soon have a beautiful park and plaza downtown, but please don't be discouraged by the parking situation for the next few months. These shops need your business and hope you'll continue to come see them.
It’s time to celebrate fall at the museum! First up will be the annual Living Treasures ceremony and reception on Sunday September 23rd at 2:00 pm. This year they will be thanking Tommy Sanders and Lowell Irby for their contributions to Artesia with a short program and reception—refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to help the museum celebrate two of Artesia’s nicest people and enjoy an exhibit from the Museum’s permanent art collection.
The 5th annual Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration will take place on Saturday October 27th, from 1:00-4:30 pm. This event has gotten bigger and better every year, and the museum has already started planning some new and different activities to go along with their tried-and-true favorites for this year’s party. They will have lots of fun stuff for families, traditional refreshments, and as always this event is FREE to everyone—it’s their way of thanking everyone for their support over the years and a great chance to observe a traditional Mexican/South American holiday. Dressing up is encouraged! For more information about these great events happening at the Artesia Historical Museum & Art Center (505 West Richardson Ave. in Artesia), call 575.746.2390.
