For 10 years we’ve been following the National Trust Main Street Center Four Point Approach to prepare for your visit!  Our volunteers participate in the following committees to prepare our MainStreet for your visit!

 Promotions Committee

Artesia MainStreet, Inc.’s Promotions Committee was the first committee to dive head first into public activity.

The committee came to life in 1997 with the task of introducing Artesia MainStreet to Artesia and to reintroduce the community to its historic downtown.

The committee began by focusing on one of the community’s greatest assets – the youth.  By creating events geared toward children, the Promotions Committee was able to draw into downtown local school children and their parents right behind them.  Our two oldest events – the Back-to-School Bash and the School’s Out Summer Splash – are directed specifically to the locals.  These events helped make MainStreet a household name in Artesia.

Since then, the Promotions Committee has branched out to events created to provide great entertainment for the community and draw a regional crowd.  Through events planning, Artesia MainStreet has created partnerships to develop and grow events.

The annual events coordinated by the Promotions Committee include:

Organization Committee

During the development of our organization, Artesia MainStreet, Inc. created a management – or Organization – committee to handle many matters of the board, fundraise, and keep the organization on track to meet its goals.

The Management Committee is charged with fundraising when projects are in the development phase.  The committee’s members keep their fingers on the pulse of the community to ensure that MainStreet’s goals meet those of the community.

To date, the Management Committee has raised more than $6 million – 70% of it from private sources – all dedicated to capital improvement projects.

Economic Positioning Committee

Although economic positioning often is a tough topic to sell as exciting, our E.P. Committee is taking off with some interesting work that has the potential to shape downtown Artesia’s development.

The E.P. and Design Committees are working together to design a Façade Improvement Program to provide incentives to building and business owners for storefront improvements that will positively impact downtown.  In addition, the E.P. Committee is overseeing a new downtown master plan study, hotel feasibility study, and an architectural survey that may lead to a state historic district designation.

The Joyce-Pruitt Building Architetural Assessment is an project of the E.P. Committee. (Works in Progress page) )

Design Committee

The Wonder Wall mural project is the completion of a Design Committee project.

Artesia MainStreet, Inc.'s Design Committee has been active since the organization's inception in 1997. The committee played a critical role in shaping the AMS Master Plan, which determined the borders of Artesia's MainStreet district and the basic design elements to improve downtown’s appearances.

With the completion of the Master Plan, the Design Committee worked with engineers and landscape architects on the renovations of Heritage Walkway and Plaza and then Main Street. In addition, this committee actively participated in the design process and completion of the Landsun Movie Theater façade renovation, Heritage Walkway Main Street entrance, Sallie Chisum sculpture project, and Wonder Wall mural project.  The committee also oversees an honorary engraved brick program.

The Design Committee does not rest despite its long list of accomplishments.  Projects on the committee’s slate include another street improvement and roundabout project, design guidelines for a Façade Improvement Program, and a gateway project for the east-west entrances to downtown Artesia.
